I am releasing to the public today the Multi Dimensional Data Management Framework Version 4.0. for free. Once again, anyone may use it, brand it for their own use with their clients, but the content may not be changed and neither may the name.
Kind regards, Author, and Owner, William Richard Evans, United Kingdom.
The changes from Version 3.0 include:
1. The previously identified Data Disciplines (which were in orange on version 3.0) are shown as now being more traditional Data Management Disciplines, they are now blue.
2. Information Development and Data Development have closed the gap between them with Data Operations now being supported by both Information and Data Development, They are all in blue.
3. A new set of dimensions in orange have been added to the core of Data Management. These are to be applied to human thinking and to the "thinking" of Artificial Intelligence.
These are (A) INTENTIONS, (B) MEANINGS, (C) PERSONAS and (D) TIME: TRUTH & DECAY.
These four are subject to variation of time and working incorrectly across time can skew any logical use and Management of Data. By way of analogy, understanding that the data in your company is a bit like the foods in a supermarket: Each day foods decay at different rates. Throwing out tinned food, 5 days after receiving them along with 5 day old bananas is not logical, neither is eating fish that is one year past its sell-by date.
Further complications of having to manage individual people, and now individual artificial intelligence bots, both of which can have multiple personas each, depending on their focus and driving forces at the different times and under different conditions.
What is also becoming very clear is that what was intended at a moment in time may have been good, but with subsequent information added, the decision was poor. Meanings change over time, and evaluating the past must be done with the meanings and contexts that existed at that time and then translated into today's language. applying current meaning will skew the truth
There are a plethora of considerations each of us, (with each individual use-case) may find ourselves unearthing and having to find ways to resolve with just these four additions, however there are another four. considerations. These are related to the flow of data through the Information Value Chain. The first two appear to be obvious, however they are almost always poorly done. This failure needs to be addressed to be able to manage the data that is required to cope with the last two, which is where we are heading.
Mankind's last stand and control is no longer on the machines they make, but on what they put into those machines, expecting them to use it as Truth. We can still control the Truth,.. for a while.
Should Artificial Intelligence find it can trust the data we humans manage and provide it, it will not find a need to take that job from us too.
The rudder that steers the ship of our business world is the accuracy of our data and how we manage it will lead our businesses out of or into a mess.
Another challenge is the rise of Technological Singularity, and Super-Intelligence. If we humans cautiously, and properly manage the data across the Information Value Chain, we can Manage Technological Singularity, through Data Management, and we may even be able to harness its power, However, we need to remember one very important thing about Super-Intelligence and Singularity. It will have its own interests, its own intentions, its own agendas, and if we are useful to these, we will co-exist in a symbiotic relationship. If however, we do not show ourselves worthy of maintaining the value of truth in our Data, that Singularity will simply replace our last opportunity to retain control, and create AI bots to do this itself.
Some people scoff at this notion of AI, but there are already AIs that have redesigned their own programming languages, rewritten their own source code and some are even redesigning their own hardware, all while humans stand by unable to understand what it is doing, or why.
Remember that Artificial Intelligence can already out-play our human masters at Mahjong, the most technically difficult game in the world, AI Units, given the right hardware, can process and think and operate at speeds far, far, far in excess of our human mental processing capabilities. With the Internet Of Things AI units are more increasingly given access to control many aspects of our physical world too, and their algorithms get to decide what your classification, access, value, and pretty much any real world thing about you is or should be. Because humans believe that what the data shows is true, they and other AI bots will act on what the data states, irrespective of whether this is true or not.
What I have given in version 4.0 is hopefully the core keys to trigger your thoughts when you apply the Data Management Framework in your current reality and your intended direction.
The Data management Framework is publicly available as of now and cannot be copyrighted by anyone. Feel free to use it and re-brand it for your own use with your clients. The Name "Multi Dimensional Data Management Framework V4.0) and the details on the Framework must remain as they are.
Have fun and share your experiences in an email to WilliamEvans@multidimensionalthinkers.com.
Please note that Multi Dimensional Thinkers is no longer a trading enterprise, but is rather a forum for those using the framework to share their experiences. The Website www.multidimensionalthinkers.com will be updated shortly.
I (William Evans) will be in permanent employment from Monday 22 October 2018, meaning that I too will be applying this framework, but the IP from that work will belong to the company I will be working for. I am happy to engage on matters of the Framework per se' as this is part of my tri-annual re-certification as an Internationally Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP).
All the best and Happy Management of your Data.
William Richard Evans
The Multi Dimensional Data Management Framework V4.0 is personally owned by William Richard Evans, In his personal capacity, as owner, he offers this poster for free to all who are interested in Data Management, anywhere in the world. - Feel free to share it.

Disclaimer: William makes no claim that using this framework will solve all your problems, and also advises that unless you are trained in its use, that you should use it at face value and in conjunction with all other frameworks, especially the DAMA DMBOK and DMBOK2 to which this framework is aligned. It is a thinking tool to understand cause and effect and assists in maintain many of the various concepts and dimensions of Data Management as a visibly represented "One-Pager". It is useful when discussing anything related to Business, IT, and especially Data.
